What is wrong with wordpress? Why you should not use wordpress.

Wordpress has become the choice of freelance designers, mostly novice webmasters who do not know the first thing about HTML or coding. They simply found a pre-made free solution, which their hosting provider installed for them, and they simply started adding posts from their admin panel, without any consideration about the HTML they are spitting out, or the torture they are putting their server through.

Lack of functionality in core wordpress setup.

Not only this, but default wordpress is nothing but a plain blog script, good for putting up a few blog posts. This is what it was developed for.

All the additional functionality that you get in a wordpress blog depends on third party extensions, again mostly free, which means that you are on the mercy of the extension developers for updates on security holes or minor modifications.
A lot of these developers are themselves coders who recently started learning PHP coding, and are totally inexperienced when it comes to security on the web. Consider this situation below.

  • You installed wordpress on your hosting, loaded a free ecommerce plugin extension, and are now running an ecommerce store.
  • A customer of yours entered their credit card information on the payment form provided by this ecommerce plugin, and the plugin stored this information without encrypting it at all.

Who do you think your customer will blame if their credit card information got compromised and stolen from your website? Who do you think will face the law suit?
How were you supposed to know that the developer of the wordpress ecommerce plugin knows nothing about web security?

Just do a google search for "my wordpress site hacked"...

A community of novice developers

Wordpress has a large community of users and as a result people who think that they can develop on wordpress are also many.
Unfortunately, only a handful of these coders are really knowledgeable and these coders charge very high price for their time. The cheap ones are just novice coders who have little knowledge about web security and proper way of coding.
These novice coders do a quick job in the worst way possible, leaving your wordpress open to hackers and security vulnerabilities.

Just google search for "My Wordpress site hacked"

Just do a google search for "my wordpress site hacked", and you will come across over "11 million" results. You read that right, over 11 million results.
There is even a special software developed to fix a hacked wordpress website.
Think about it, somebody saw the "high demand" for a software like this one, and they developed it!!!
This is their core business, to fix hacked wordpress websites!
Somebody is making a living out of fixing hacked wordpress websites. What does that tell you? How many wordpress websites are getting hacked on a daily basis?

Ancient structure of code

Wordpress is an old software, developed before 2008, and its basic structure has barely changed since then. The coding language in which wordpress was coded, PHP version 4, has gone through various version updates, and is currently running PHP 7 at the time of writing this article. Unfortunately, the core code of wordpress is still mostly same as it was with PHP4, which means that its core developers never really took the time to re-code the whole thing from scratch.

This situation becomes even worse when you consider the third party free plugins you install on core wordpress to extend its functionality, like an ecommerce plugin may be. Even this could have been developed for PHP version 5, and is not up-to-date with current web standards.

This is the reason why you keep getting those errors when you install a plugin and the whole thing crashes down.
To make it even worse, all plugin information is stored in the database, so if you backup your database now at this point, and rebuild it, you will still keep getting the same error...

Excess load on database for no use.

Like mentioned above, even the smallest information is stored in the database, like plugins loaded, various settings, and all of this information is pulled out of the database on every load.
To make a bad situation even worse, every wordpress plugin installed, loads its own startup and sends multiple queries to database

This will not be too much problem on a low traffic website, but when traffic increases, this puts immense load on the mysql server and results in lost connection errors or even total crash.

Now that you are aware of some basic problems which you can come across when using a wordprress blog script, think 10 times before using it.
If your freelance coder suggests you to use wordpress, you know its time to fire him out!

Start using ePowerPress!

Start using ePowerPress, which is modern, and at least 7 times more powerful at its core than wordpress!
